Our remodeling plans require us to temporarily move our entire inventory from the "back racks" out to the floor; presenting a rare and delectable opportunity for serious Texas collectors everywhere: the chance to browse the stacks in search of previously hidden art treasures and strike a deal at a bargain price!

William Reaves Fine Art's Summer Remodeling Sale promises to be a true Texas art jubilee, a rare art rummaging experience that just doesn't come along very often.  We advise clients and patrons to definitely get this treasure hunt on your August art calendars and come search our stacks for fabulous finds and wonderful values!  As always, the gallery will be open every Friday-Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and other times by appointment.

As we get ready for another exciting year, not only are we polishing up the gallery to serve you better; we're expanding and enhancing our professional team as well!  Your August visits to William Reaves Fine Art will be graciously and ably accommodated by our newest team members, Sarah Beth Wilson and Leslie Thompson, Gallery Director and Assistant Director respectively.  These talented young art professionals represent great new assets for our firm and wonderful new additions to the Texas art community.  We'll have much more to say about them in the weeks to come, as well as news about our extraordinary new season of Texas art.

In the meantime, put on your casual clothes and tennis shoes and drop by William Reaves Fine Art's temporary construction site for an old-fashioned Texas treasure hunt.  If you don't mind a bit of dust and a little banging in the background, the art promises to be great and we'd enjoy the company!

Harold Bugbee: A Brand of His Own

March 5-27- Harold Bugbee, A Brand of His Own.  We are very excited about the opportunity to bring this show to Houston.  It is a rare collection of Bugbee's western paintings and drawings from 1918-1958, and they go up just in time to celebrate the Community Western Heritage Challenge (in conjunction with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo)!  Bugbee was an important twentieth-century artist working in our state "between the wars".  Aside from Frank Reaugh, Bugbee was one of the very few "Western artists" working in the state during the heyday of the state's ranching economy.  He is truly the "Charlie Russell" of Texas!

Texas Paper: Watercolors, Pastels and Drawings from the Lone Star State

As a means of demonstrating the inherent quality and aesthetic importance of Texas paper, we have decided to mount a significant exhibition addressing the topic.  Our current show entitled, Texas Paper: Watercolors, Pastels and Drawings from the Lone Star State, presents sixty-five fabulous works created by forty of Texas’ foremost artists.  These drawings, pastels and watercolors span some seventy years, and portray the artist’s creative style and facility in executing works on paper.  They depict strong Texas subject matter, and while rendered in a broad range of styles and media, all are laid down on the common foundation of paper.

Adickes...Early

Given our gallery’s affinity for vintageTexas art, we naturally pursued the idea of mounting an exhibition of early paintings by David Adickes. After six decades of work in Houston the bon vivant Adickes is among the city’s most recognizable art personalities, and his works from the fifties through the middle sixties are especiallydistinctive, certainly ranking among the most important of his extensive career! Thus, we were delighted when the artist graciously consented to a show of this nature.

Fifty Paintings from the Formative Period.

Opening Reception: Saturday, October 17, 5-8 PM.

McKie Trotter :" Back Again At Last"

This important exhibition reintroduces Texans to the spectacular early paintings of Fort Worth artist and educator, McKie Trotter. In the 1950's, Trotter was among the leading modernists advancing abstract art in post-war Texas. Applying his own style of abstraction, Trotter painted compelling images capturing the colors, forms and feel of the vast Texas landscape. In the middle years of the twentieth century, he exhibited frequently throughout the state and garnered awards and recognitions in prominent art circles within and outside Texas. William Reaves Fine Art is pleased to bring Trotter's magnificent works back to the public eye in this first exhibition of the artists work since his death in 1999.

Bill Reily:

During a long and distinguished career Bill Reily as artist and teacher produced a grand body of work, generatiing splendid and immaginative images in a dazzling array of subject, style and media. In Texas during the 1950's and 60's, Bill Reily pursued his own brand of "modern art", perfecting a distinctive style of abstraction in the midst of old San Antonio. Reily paintings were consistently juried into important local and regional art competitions of this time, and he garnered numerous honors and awards in noteworthy Texas venues. We are confident that our viewers will agree that the artist's contributions to the body of art work now referred to as "Texas modernism" warrent serious attention and greater appreciation.
